Easily change your watch strap
Changing a watch strap is a simple way to refresh the look of your watch or replace a worn strap. The original strap is usually removed with a spring bar tool, while a strap fitted with quick-release spring bars can be removed and attached without tools in just a few seconds. Simply choose a width suited to the case’s lug width and a length that fits your wrist.
How do you remove an original watch strap?
An original watch strap is generally held on either side of the case by steel spring bars, also known as lug pins. Hidden inside the leather lining, they require a spring bar tool to compress them without damaging the case lugs.
- Place the watch face down on a soft surface.
- Insert the forked end of the spring bar tool between the strap and the metal case lug.
- Gently compress the spring bar, then release the strap.
- Repeat on the other side of the case.
Where can you buy a spring bar tool?
Maison Fèvre offers a watch spring bar tool in its official online store. This tool makes it easy to remove a strap fitted with lug pins before installing a new, easily interchangeable model.
How do you replace a watch strap with quick-release spring bars?
A strap fitted with quick-release spring bars can be removed and attached without tools, thanks to the small metal pin visible on the back of the strap. It takes just a few seconds to change straps and give your watch a new look. Discover Maison Fèvre men’s watch straps and women’s watch straps.
- Slide the pin inward with your index finger to remove the strap.
- To fit the new strap, insert one end of the spring bar into one of the case lugs.
- Move the pin, then position the other end between the two lugs.
- Release the pin: a soft “click” may confirm that it is in place.
- Before wearing the watch, check that the spring bar is properly engaged by gently tugging on the strap.
What size watch strap should you choose?
Watch strap size mainly refers to its width at the lugs, measured in millimeters. The length should also fit your wrist, but the multiple adjustment holes on Maison Fèvre straps make it easy to find the right fit.
The width may be marked on the back of the old strap, if the marking has not worn away. For example, a marking such as “18” indicates a strap that is 18 mm wide at the lugs.
How do you measure a watch strap?
Is your old strap worn out, has its marking faded, or do you no longer have it? You can easily measure what watchmakers call the lug width: the space on the case where the strap attaches.
Using a ruler graduated in millimeters, measure the inside distance between the two case lugs. Be sure to measure between the lugs, not from their outer edges: an 18 mm lug width requires an 18 mm watch strap.
A demonstration video will be available soon to guide you through taking this measurement. If you’re unsure, Maison Fèvre customer service is available by phone or email using the contact details listed in the footer of the online store.
Which watch strap should you choose?
Choosing a Maison Fèvre watch strap means choosing a family-run French company founded in 1942, with a heritage of exacting leather craftsmanship. Designed by the creative studio in Vichy, the straps are handmade in the family workshop in Madagascar, under the supervision of the founder’s grandson, using carefully selected materials known for their quality: full-grain leathers, premium hides and distinctive textiles.
To choose your strap, consider the style, shape and details of the case to find the model that will best complement it. You can match its color to the dial or hands, or play with contrasts to turn your watch into a true fashion accessory. Burgundy and ecru add an elegant touch to women’s watches, while Majorelle blue or light brown can make a bold statement on men’s watches. The key is to choose a strap that brings out the character of a vintage, classic or contemporary watch.
How do you change an Apple Watch strap and choose the right size?
Changing an Apple Watch strap is quick and easy thanks to its tool-free sliding attachment system. To remove your strap, turn your watch over, press and hold the release button on the back of the case, then slide the strap sideways. Insert the new strap until it clicks into place and check that it is securely attached.
To choose the right Apple Watch strap size, first identify which of the two categories your case dimensions fall into:
- Small case: 38 mm, 40 mm, 41 mm and 42 mm (Series 10 and 11).
- Large case: 42 mm (Series 1 to 3), 44 mm, 45 mm, 46 mm and 49 mm (Apple Watch Ultra).
The case size is engraved on the back of your Apple Watch. Note that not all 42 mm models are compatible with the same straps: their category depends on the watch generation.
